10th Student Velehrad

30. 4. - 2. 5. 2010

“RELAY – it is in your hands”

We are happy that “Studentsky Velehrad” gives us an opportunity to invite our friends from abroad. We can share our experience of student life in Czech Republic. We can talk about changes in our society, about the political and religious freedom that began after “The Velvet Revolution” and the role the Catholic Church played in this change and in our society over the last 20 years of freedom.

“Studentsky Velehrad” is a good place to make new contacts, to start European friendships. The mutual exchange of ideas and experiences may help us to see our own work more clearly. It will give us inspiration and light to see how a student with faith can live in the context of the whole of European.

Student Velehrad

Student Velehrad” is a meeting of students organized every two years in Velehrad by the Movement of Catholic University Students. For the 10th meeting we have chosen the theme: RELAY. For us this theme brings together two apparently contradicting facts. On the occasion of 20th anniversary of our freedom and of student meetings, we would like to reflect both on the present moment and on the distant horizon. The debate will be: “I have a unique role” vs “I am just one member of a large community”.

We would like to discuss this topic in the context of:

- developments over the past 20 years

- the current situation in the Catholic Church and our society

- our personal journey of faith

- our personal involvement in society.

Two invited speakers will address each of these four sub-topics. Besides these lectures, there will be discussions with past students who participated in student meetings in previous years. The focus of their reflection will be:

- the current situation in our church and society

- their experience of living their faith after leaving the university.

The programme will also include celebrating the Eucharist together as well as sport, concerts and discussions in small groups. So there will be time not only for thinking, but also for shared experiences and making new friends. The meeting takes place during the weekend and it is preceded by a few days’ pilgrimage
